Known to European settlers and their descendants as Chief Blackhawk, Makataimeshekiakiak was a leader of the oθaakiiwaki‧hina‧ki tribe in the state now know as Michigan in the United States. He aligned and fought with the British during the war of 1812 in an attempt to stop settlement of his people’s traditional territory.
