Hand-operated cream separators began appearing on Canadian dairy farms in the 1890s and their opeartion becamse part of the daily routine of farm women for many decards. Farm separation ensured that farmers got full value for their butterfat production of their dairy herds, while the seperator's higher butterfat yields stimulated the grown of cream gathering creameries. - Function
