Function: TO HOLD A QUANTITY OF FEED, USUALLY LAYING MASH FOR LARGE POULTRY. THE WEIGHT OF THE MATERIAL IN THE HOPPER, COMBINED WITH THE CONVEX SHAPE OF THE BASE, CAUSES MORE FEED TO BE CARRIED DOWN THROUGH THE OPENING BETWEEN THE HOPPER & BASE AS FAST AS THE FEED IS CONSUMED.
Technical: BECAUSE IT HELD A QUANTITY OF FOOD & WAS SELF-FEEDING, THIS FEEDER REQUIRED REFILLING LESS OFTEN & ENABLED THE BIRDS TO EAT AT ALL TIMES DURING THE DAY. ALSO, BECAUSE THE FEED WAS MORE CONFINED, WASTE WAS NOT AS GREAT AS WITH THE TROUGH TYPE.
