IN THE PRISMATIC COMPASS THE GRADUATIONS, INSTEAD OF BEING ON THE COMPASS-BOX, ARE ON A CARD WHICH IS FASTENED TO THE NEEDLE (LIKE AMARINER'S COMPASS) AND WHICH MOVES WITH IT. THIS COMPASS IS PROVIDED WITH TWO SHORT SIGHTS AND THE BEARING CAN BE READ BY MEANS OF A PRISM, AT THE SAME INSTANT THAT DEVELOPMENT: THE COMPASS IS SIGHTED ALONG THE LINE. - Area Notes
