Part of videotex technology system designed, developed & built in Canada. The Telidon program began on August 15, 1978 and ended on March 31, 1985. This equipment was used in field trials in Canada in an attempt to expand the availability of the technology to more artists in order to enable more content creation.

Function

Used to input data into Norpak GCS-SYS-161 Telidon system picture creation computer. Page creation systems were meant to be used by artists hired by service providers to create and provide content for Telidon system databases, often in the form of commercial art.

Technical

The Norpak GCS-SYS-161 was intended to be a less expensive desk-top page creation system. It used a Motorola 6809 processor and was about a third of the cost of an Information Provider System 2 (IPS-2). However, it was slow and ackward to operate and was not as functional and capable as the more expensive IPS-2. Due to this, the Norpak GCS-SYS-161 was not not a financial or commercial success.
