MID 1960'S MAGNETIC TAPE DRIVE, FROM PERIOD WHEN TAPE DRIVE WAS DOMINANT FORM OF AUXILIARY STORAGE. THIS MODEL WAS DEVELOPED FOR IBM S/360 COMPUTER & WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL. IT EMPLOYED 9-TRACK FORMAT, WAS COMPATIBLE WITH EXISTING TAPES, RECORDED AT 800 & LATER 1600 BPI & CAME IN SEVERAL MODELS (SOME FOR 7 TRACK TAPES). CLI USED IBM 1401 & LATER S/360 COMPUTERS (SEE 872038-2042, ESPECIALLY TAPE DRIVE 872039). - Area Notes
