Puck was a magazine in the United States that featured colourful cartoons, caricatures, and political satire. It was founded in 1876 as a German-language publication by Joseph Keppler. The first English-language edition was published in 1877, covering political and social issues that were topical to readers of the late 19th century to the early 20th century. Puck magazine was active during a period of legal exclusions directed at equity deserving groups and immigrants (Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882; Immigration Act of 1917). This type of racist legislation, which was informed by social attitudes of the period, was reaffirmed and reinforced through the artwork presented in magazines, like Puck.
