Markings

The front markings are those written on the drawing itself. The back markings have been taken from labels attached to the brown paper back of the framed drawing. This is probably a transcript of original writing on the back of the drawing. Almost all of these framed drawings also have another label affixed to the back which reads: ‘THE T. EATON CO./ *HOUSE FURNISHINGS LIMITED/ TORONTO CANADA/ PICTURE/ FRAMING/ 33307'. Most also have a handwritten measurement on the front or the back.// [FRONT]: ‘555/ L-3'/ [BACK]: ‘L-3/ The drawing illustrates the/ rotting of the ends of the/ caps, sleepers and logs,/ which necessitated the rebuilding/ of the fence by shortening the/ logs and consequently re-/ ducing the length of the panels.'
