THIS COLLECTION CONSISTS OF OVER 7500 ARTIFACTS, AND IS THOUGHT TO BE THE LARGEST AND MOST COMPREHENSIVE IN CANADA. RECEPTACLES THAT ATTACHED TO EDISON LAMP SOCKETS IN ORDER TO PROVIDE ELECTRICITY TO APPLIANCES BEGAN TO BE PATENTED IN THE 1880S. THEY QUICKLY BECAME COMMON, AND MANY DESIGNS WERE PRODUCED AND SOLD. BY 1931 EDISON BASE RECEPTACLES WEREREPLACED BY WALL RECEPTACLES. (REF 1) - Area Notes
