THIS COLLECTION CONSISTS OF OVER 7500 ARTIFACTS, AND IS THOUGHT TO BE THE LARGEST & MOST COMPREHENSIVE IN CANADA. EDISON IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN THE FIRST TO PRODUCE AN ENCLOSED FUSE PLUG. THE EARLIEST HAD BODIES MADE OF WOOD, THE GLASS, AND LATER PORCELAIN. IN 1896THE INTERNAL CONSTRUCTION CHANGED, TO PERMIT THE USE OF A LONGER FUSE. THE CARTRIDGE-TYPE FUSE WAS INTRODUCED IN 1903. BY 1950 FUSE PLUGS WERE NO LONGER POPULAR. - Area Notes
