BY 1995 THEY HAD EVOLVED THROUGH 3 TYPES; ALL OF WHICH WERE BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE. PCMCIA ADDED FUNCTIONALITY TO SMALL COMPUTERS WITH SIZE & WEIGHT CONSTRAINTS, LAN CARDS SUCH AS THESE WERE REQUIRED BY PC BASED COMPUTERS. THIS IS EXAMPLE OF TYPE III CARD. - Area Notes
