Function: COIL OF WIRE USED TO PRODUCE MAGNETIC FIELD IN ELECTROMAGNETIC DEVICE WHEN CURRENT IS DRIVEN THROUGH COIL, WITH IN THIS CASE WITHIN AUTOMOTIVE STARTING MOTOR.
Technical: ILLUSTRATES 2 POLE FIELD COIL CONSTRUCTION REPRESENTING TECHNOLOGY EMPLOYED FOR MANY YEARS THROUGH LATTER 1920S TO 1950S, AT WHICH POINT NEW SYNTHETIC INSULATIONS WERE INTRODUCED, GREATLY EXTENDING LIFE OF WINDINGS & THEIR TEMPERATURE RANGE. THIS WAS USED ON 1940 STUDEBAKER, 1937-1939 PLYMOUTH ETC. (REF. 1).
