THIS IS EXAMPLE OF HOLLOW WIRE SYSTEM GASOLINE LAMP. GASOLINE IS DELIVERED THROUGH SMALL DIAMETER BRASS TUBE, FROM PRESSURIZED TANK. GASOLINE IS VAPOURIZED AT BURNER IN SAME MANNER AS COLEMAN CAMPING LANTERN. IT USED GAS MANTLES ATTACHED TO PIPECLAY RING, WHICH BAYONETS ON TO BURNER OPENING. THIS SYSTEM WAS DEVELOPED DURING THE 1890s TO COMPETE WITH ELECTRICITY. IN COMPARISON TO OTHER GASOLINE GAS SYSTEMS, IT WAS SIMPLE AND INEXPENSIVE BUT ALSO DANGEROUS. THE SYSTEM COULD LAST FOR DAYS. - Area Notes
