Technical: AT THIS TIME PATENT MEDICINES CONTAINING OPIUM, COCAINE, STRYCHNINE, & ALCOHOL WERE READILY AVAILABLE OVER THE COUNTER IN MOST PHARMACIES. THE PATENT MEDICINE ACT OF 1908ATTEMPTED TO CURB THE USE OF NARCOTICS, BUT IT WAS ANOTHER 10 YRS. BEFORE THE PUBLIC BEGAN TO REALIZE THE DANGERS OF THESE MEDICINES.
