STANDARD REGISTER CO. WAS FOUNDED IN DAYTON, OHIO IN 1912 AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER INTRODUCED THE 'AUTOGRAPHIC REGISTER'. CONTINUOUS FORMS PUNCHED ALONG BOTH MARGINS WERE FED THROUGH THE DEVICE BY MEANS OF SPROCKET WHEELS WITH PINS: UP TO 8 COPIES COULD BE PRODUCED AT ONE TIME. THE DEVICE SIMPLIFIED BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS AND QUICKLY BECAME THE STANDARD. (REF. 1)

"Standard/ THE STANDARD REGISTER CO.- DAYTON, OHIO" printed in gold on one side of register casing. "T1", "MADE IN U.S.A." and "103018" incised on inside front edge. Label fixed to inside upper edge of register top reads "LOADING INSTRUCTIONS FOR TABLET REGISTER/ Raise lid by placing left hand in the register opening against writing table, to hold paper and carbon, and lift lid/ at back./ Place pack in space under writing table. (Pack must not be over 3/4" high.) All forms pass over the one idler/ back of writing table./ Thread forms between the carbon shield holders./ The shields span the carbon sheets and prevent paper folds catching on carbon./ Then load forms over pin wheels./ The lid is then dropped in place and machine is ready to issue forms. A tray attached under register is/ provided to hold issued forms./ If carbon sheets are not held while raising lid, they will be displaced from between shields and should be/ properly rearranged./ H-2496-5-2-32.
