The North American Harvard was the most numerous single-engined advanced trainer ever used by the RCAF. Designed in the U.S for use as an advanced trainer, the Harvard and its derivatives was the aircraft of choice of many air forces before, during and after the Second World War. The Harvard was produced in large numbers in Canada during the conflict by Noorduyn. The artist who painted the original artwork was Robert J Banks. In 1943, Robert joined the RCNVR, then the RCAF, serving until discharged as a Pilot Officer, Bomb Aimer in December 1944. Rejoining the RCAF Primary Reserve in 1954, he served until retiring in 1966 as a Flight Lieutenant. After the war, Bob attended the Vancouver School of Art. A 62 year career in commercial art followed, where he did work for such firms as CP Air, Air Canada, BC Rail and BC Transit. - Function
