A SERIES OF GERMAN-MADE FOLDING CAMERAS, THE CARBINE CAMERAS WERE MADE PRIMARILY FOR USE WITH ROLLFILM, BUTMOST MODELS (INCLUDING THE 3B) HAVE A REMOVEABLE PANEL IN THE BACK WHICH ALLOWS FOR THE USE OF PLATES AS WELL. BEFORE WW1 W. BUTCHER & SONS WAS PRIMARILY AN IMPORTER: PRIOR TO 1909 MOST CAMERAS WERE MADE BY HUTTIG AFTER 1909, ICA OF DRESDEN GER. MFD MOST OF THE CAMERAS SOLD BY BUTCHER. [REF. 2] - Area Notes

Exposure & f-stop scales marked. "BAUSCH & LOMB OPTICAL CO./ ROCHESTER, N.Y." & logo marked on shutter plate. "The/ Carbine" marked in raised print on one side panel of camera body. "TOP" and "A35147" incised on back of camera, on frame.
