LASER DISK WAS OPTICALDISK USED FOR FULL-MOTION VIDEO. DEVELOPED IN 1970S, IT WAS PRECURSOR OF DVD & BECAME OBSOLETE IN 1990'S. ALTHOUGH SEVERAL VIDEODISC SYSTEMS WERE INTRODUCED, ONLY PHILIPS LASERVISION SURVIVED UNTIL CD-ROMS & DVDS ARRIVED. LASERDISC MOVIES USED CLV FORMAT, RECORDING ANALOG COMPOSITE VIDEO SIGNAL ON CONTINUOUS, SPIRALING TRACK. EACH SIDE OF 12" PLATTER HELD ONE HOUR OF VIDEO IN 108,000 FRAMES. - Area Notes
