From cased set of amputation instruments originally owned, and presumably used, by Dr. George H. Bowen, of Leeds County, Ontario. He was registered as M.R.C.P. in 1877. This set was given to Dr. Bowen by his mother. [Ref. 3]

Possibly used to cut skin and soft tissue from site during/following trepanning.
Technical
This example features an older style (or pre-aseptic) handle with deeply incised pattern grip. (Ref. 4) Short blade features slight downward curve; pointed blade; and elongated hand grip, to improve balance and control.
