Joseph Alphonse Ouimet (1908-1988) started his career as a designer and engineer for Canadian Television Limited of Montreal. In this position he designed and built one of Canada's earliest television sets (1969.1044) which received television signals broadcast from VE9EC Montreal. In 1934, he joined the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission, later the CBC. He became president of the CBC in 1958 and is responsible for the creation of the bilingual coast to coast Canadian public television network. J.A Ouimet retired from the CBC in 1967 and was appointed a Companion of the Order of Canada in 1969 and that same year he was made chair for Telesat Canada. Avec cette position, il a conçu et bâti un des premiers téléviseurs canadiens (1969.1044) qui recevait des signaux de télévision diffusés par VE9EC Montréal. En 1934, il a rejoint la Commission canadienne de radiodiffusion, le précurseur de Radio-Canada. Il est devenu le président de Radio-Canada en 1958 et est responsable de la création d'un réseau de télévision bilingue à travers le Canada. - Large acrylic coloured painting on framed canvas. The frame is bronze coloured. The painting has a white / light beige matting that surrounds the artwork. The painting has a dark orange / light red background and J. A Ouimet is painted in multiple different colors. The author's signature is handwritten at the bottom of the painting in green. The back of the frame has a metal hanging wire. The painting is supported onto the wooden canvas with multiple silver metal brackets and silver screws. The white matting is stapled into the paintings wooden frame. Grande peinture acrylique en couleur sur une toile. Le cadre est en couleur bronze. La peinture a un passe-partout blanc / beige pâle qui fait le contour de l'oeuvre. La peinture a un arrière-plan orange foncée / rouge pâle et la figure de J. A Ouimet est peinturé en différentes couleurs. La signature de l'auteur est écrite à la main au bas de l'oeuvre en vert. Le derrière de la toile a une corde en métal pour accrocher la peinture. La peinture est soutenue sur la toile de bois avec plusieurs supports métalliques et des vis argentées. Le passe-partout est agrafé dans le cadre de bois.
