This water pump was developped and manufactured in Canada. Canada has been a world leader in the development & testing of fire-fighting equipment. This pump is one of two Wajax Mk.2 pumps that was used by the Newfoundland and Labrador Forest Service, according to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Central's (CIFFC) Fire Resource Inventory (April 1996). - Function
-
Used to pump surface water to fight forest fires in remote locations. - Technical
-
This specific water pump demonstrates the evolution of the Wajax pumps. The Mark 2 model replaced the Mark 1 model in 1961. The carrying frame was the most significant change, by making it a triangular. The Mark 2 model was a more portable unit in the forest compared to the heavier Mark 1. The Mark 2 was eventually replaced by the Mark 2M. The Mark 2 model water pump was the last portable Wajax that was fitted with a float carburetor rather than an all-time position, diaphragm one. - Area Notes
