The iMac G3 was the first model of the iMac line of personal computers made by Apple Inc. [formerly Apple Computer, Inc.] It houses the monitor and CPU in a single enclosure. [NB: Markings on the computer and all documentation reference Apple Computer, Inc.] The company announced the iMac on May 6, 1998 and started shipping three months later. It's launch was a landmark event for it's time, and had a huge impact on both the company and the computer industry. [Ref. 2] This computer is covered in translucent plastic. It has a floppy drive and USB ports. It also has a handle so it is theoretically portable. [Ref. 1] - Area Notes
