Dr. Ho Ping Kong is a physician known for innovations in medical education and his emphasis on the human dimensions of medical care. In the tradition of the renowned Canadian physician William Osler, Dr. Ho Ping Kong bridges modern medicine with older humanist values. In 2012, the University of Health Network in Toronto established a Centre of Excellence in Education in his name. In 2017, he was featured in the Medical Sensations exhibit at the Canada Science and Technology Museum. In that exhibit, he is seen teaching students with a Harvey mannequin - the portrait "Empathy" is in the background. Dr. Ho Ping Kong, of Chinese-Jamaican background, came to Canada in 1973 to set up the first division of Internal Medicine Department at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. In Canada, he established a reputation for finding the human dimension of patients amidst all the surrounding technologies and vast healthcare system. He came to Toronto in 1994 to carry on his work at the Toronto Western Hospital. - Function
