The log book belonged to the donor's father, who was a Flying Officer with the RCAF. RCAF Station Alliford Bay was established in May 1940 as the new home for bomber reconnaissance squadrons of the RCAF. Bomber reconnaissance squadrons were RCAF maritime patrol units, equipped with long range aircrafts that patrolled sea lanes on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. - Function
-
The log book was used to provide a daily record of the flying activities of a Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) pilot during the Second World War, i.e. aircraft types, name of pilot and passengers if any, type of flight, length of flight. - Technical
-
One might argue that the log book does not have much in the way of of technical context. However, its creation is linked to the growth of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) during the Second World War and the role it played in the defending Canada's coastlines. As the RCAF grew, new bases were created in outlying regions of the country. RCAF Station Alliford Bay was one such base. - Area Notes

The center of the cover of the book has white stains, presumably due to humidity stains.
