The first edition lithograph of Canadian aviation artist John B. Rutherford's " The End of an Era " oil painting commemorates the disbandment of RCAF 409 Squadron at CFB Comox. 409 Squadron was active at CFB Comox from 1954 to 1984, and provided air defence to Canada's west coast as part of Canada's NORAD commitments during the Cold War. They flew the CF-100 before converting to CF-101 Voodo in 1962. Rutherford's artwork depicts these two aircrafts in flight above CFB Comox. The litograph features the signatures of Group Captain E.G. "Irish" Ireland, DFC, CD and Lieutenant Colonel Larry Lott, CD. - Function
