Designed by Ampex engineer Jack Wernli and first introduced in 1954, the 601 is a high-quality, portable tape recorder-player. At “only 27 pounds” it was considered lightweight at the time (Leslie and Snyder, 2010, p. 7). It pairs with the Ampex 620 amplified loudspeaker, as part of a portable “suitcase” unit (see 2013.0667). - Area Notes

- The proper right clip is missing its gold coloured cover.
- Finish
- Hard-bodied lid with two gold coloured metal clips. The sides of the lid has brown artificial leather edging with yellow stitching. The interior of the lid has two brown leather straps to secure the power cord. The interior of the lid also holds two film wheels.
