This is a replica of the Solar Furnace designed and used by Antoine Lavoisier for his chemistry experiments in the 18th century. Lavoisier used the focused beam of the sun to produce intense heat - solar heat would be free of combustion products that cold contaminate experiments. This replica was made by the renowned Canadian chemist, Fernando Dufour, the inventor of the Elemen-Tree or 3-D periodic table. The puppet figure of Lavoisier was made by Dufour's wife. Fernando had an avid interest in sculpting early in his career, before he became a chemist. - Function
