This artifact was used both by the donor, and the donor's father as a display piece in their home between the 1960's and 2015.

The donor’s father was a dairy scientist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food for some 41 years. He collected old items related to dairying, and these items ended up with the donor upon his passing. He would go antique shopping in the Gananoque region of Ontario as well as trade some of his old clothing items. His exchanges were quite often for antique bottles found across the northern part of Leeds County. The donor further bolstered the collection with antiques from the eastern Townships in his quest to recreate a general store set in the 1890s in his basement in the Glebe neighborhood of Ottawa. This particular object was actually bought by the donor in Kemptville, Ontario. Le père du donateur était un scientifique des produits laitiers qui travaillait pour le ministère de l'Agriculture et de l'Alimentation de l'Ontario pour plus de 41 ans. Il a collectionné des artefacts qui correspondaient à son métier. Son fils a contribué à la collection en magasinant pour des antiques dans la région de Gananoque en Ontario. Il a aussi augmenté la collection en échangeant ces vêtements usagés contre des bouteilles antiques retrouvé au travers Leeds Compté. Le but de ces acquisitions était pour créer un magasin général situé dans les années 1890-s dans son sous-sol à Ottawa. Dernièrement le donateur a aussi amélioré la collection avec des objets qu'il a achetés qui appartenaient de la région des Cantons de L'Est. Ce quart de boisseau a été acheté par le donateur à Kemptville, Ontario.

Finish

An artifact that is made of curved wood that is in the shape of a barrel or basket. It is reinforced with metal strapping that begin under the rim of the artifact and travel underneath it before coming back up the artifact on its opposite side. These metal straps are secured to the artifact with metal rivets. A symbol and some lettering have been burned into the wood on the side of the artifact. Un artefact fait avec du bois courbé qui est fait en forme de baril ou de panier. L'objet est renforcé avec des feuillards métalliques qui sont attachées sur un côté de l'objet avec des rivets en métal. Les feuillards métalliques voyagent en dessous de l'objet et ils ressortent de l'autre côté. Une lèvre biseautée est visible tout autour de la circonférence de l'artefact. Du lettrage est un symbole son brulé sur le côté de l'artefact.
