Blue Mountain Pottery was founded around 1947 by a Czech immigrant named Josef Weider (1909-71) who established himself in Collingwood Ontario. Two other people who were also Czech named Dennis (Zdenek) Tupy and Mirek Hambalek joined Josef as a mould maker and polisher respectively. Production at the company encompassed bowls, ash trays, and a multitude of animal figurines. As the company grew so too did its factory and its export, which accounted for 60 % of its production selling internationally to the United States, the British Isles, the West Indies, and Australasia. The company closed its doors in February of 2005 but pieces from Blue Mountain Pottery were popular as wedding gifts throughout the company’s tenure and continued to persist for some time after. - Function
