- "Old time engineers had their own decorating ideas. This photograph, of a Great Western locomotive many years old, forwarded by Mr. J.R. Dixon now in the Traffic Department of the Ford Motor Co., Detroit, shows the Indian with his bow and arrow which mounted the headlight. Note also the position of the bell, atop the cowcatcher. Standing in the cab is Mr. Dixon's father, who sent the picture, while the engineer in charge was known to him as Bill Richardson. Old time engineers frequently had figures of Indians etc., cut from brass, mounted on their locomotives, as shown above."
