- Skidder at Industrial Timbermills Camp near Cowichan Lake, Vancouver Island. Tall Douglas firs are left at intervals and used later as "spars" for "skidding" purposes. The ski line is a two inch cable that runs to another "spar" on the mountain side on which the block runs back and forth dragging down felled timber. These "sky lines" are sometimes twenty eight hundred feet long. Trees used as spars must be at least one hundred and sixty feet high. The outfit shown is a "duplex". Two engines one for "skidding" and the other for loading railway cars for the trip to lake shore "booming grounds".
