The transition was rapid with courses of instruction and actual practice alongside experienced operators provided by the manufacturers of the units. Engineer Ed Hone of Brockville whistles for a crossing while at the throttle of diesel 9000 during his run to Brockville from Montreal on fast freight 495 en route Toronto.
