- Train orders control trains. Before making a move, the engine crew must have this important piece of paper. Here Fireman Ed Foster and Engineer Ed Hone of Brockville read their orders before moving their diesel-powered train. En route further orders may be picked up but in each case the later order governs the movement of the train. Manually operated light signals by operators and automatic block signals along the right of way provide further control of the moving train.
