MacGregor Gourlay was a large part of the formation of the Canada Machinery Corporation (CMC), which was an integrated producer of both woodworking and metalworking machine tools (but mostly woodworking). The corporation was composed of five smaller companies, and it went on to become a major producer of railway and metalworking and woodworking tools, as well as a major component in the Second World War.

Technical

Engine lathe, slide rest actuated automatically to traverse the tool while cutting, allowed several operations (milling, gear cutting, shaping, drilling, sanding, thread cutting). Very accurate machine. Countershaft comes with cone pulley, fast and loose pulleys, and hangers, and may have been used in the overhead drive mechanism. Lathe was 11 in of center height and had a 14 ft bed.
