G.E. PUT THE 1ST ENCLOSED A.C. ARC LAMP ON THE MARKET IN 1893 & THIS TYPE OF LAMP BECAME POPULAR SOON AFTER/ THE 1ST A.C. LAMPS WERE NOISY, UNCERTAIN OF ACTION & NOT ECONOMICAL, G.E. INTRODUCED IMPROVEMENTS IN 1897/ AS A.C. LAMPS SENT A DOUBLE CONE OF LIGHT, IT WAS SUITABLE FOR LOW SUSPENSION STREET LIGHTING/ The clear glass outer globe also indicates this lamp was used for street lighting. - Area Notes
