BETWEEN SATELLITE PASSES, UNIT'S INTERNAL COMPUTER CALCULATES CHANGES IN VESSEL'S POSITION BASED ON INPUTS OF SPEED, HEADING, & TIDAL DATA (1).

SATNAV, USING TRANSIT SATELLITES, WAS FIRST SATELLITE NAVIGATION SYSTEM, DEVELOPED C. 1960. THIS UNIT IS REPRESENTATIVE OF RECEIVERS DEVELOPED TO USE WITH TRANSIT & GAVE POSITION ACCURACY OF 100-200 M. SYSTEM WAS WIDELY USED UNTIL 1990'S, WHEN MORE ACCURATE GPS SYSTEM WAS IMPLEMENTED. SATNAV SYSTEM WILL BE ALLOWED TO DIE IN 1996 (2).
