Canada: PART OF A FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM DEVELOPED & PATENTED BY GUARD-X OF MONTREAL IN THE 1940S. IT MANUFACTURED & SOLD THE CARBONTETRACHLORIDE GRENADE SYSTEM OF FIRE EXTINGUISHERS FOR MAINLY INDUSTRIAL USE IN EASTERN CANADA UNTIL THE SYSTEM WAS DECLARED DANGEROUS & BANNED IN THE 1950S
Function: USED AS A SIGNAL TO WARN PEOPLE THAT THERE IS AN UNWANTED FIRE BURNING
Technical: THIS BELL WAS PART OF AN "AUTOMATIC" FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM. IT WAS WIRED TO AN ELECTRICAL BOX WHICH WAS CONNECTED TO 11EXTINGUISHER MOUNTINGS. THESE HAD FUSIBLE LINKS WHICH MELTED WHEN A PRESET TEMPERATURE WAS EXCEEDED. WHEN THIS HAPPENED A CONNECTION WAS MADE BY WHICH A SWITCH OPENED SENDING A CURRENT TO THE BELL.
