Collecting new technologies has been defined as priority by the CSTMC senior management. Meeting this priority is a complicated task. New technologies are rarely described in Historical Assessments. It is difficult to use historical criteria to assess importance of current technologies to the transformation of Canada in the long term. It is impossible to fully assess their and they inventors Canadian and technological significance. There is little precedent that can be used to guide preparation of proposals in this area. Finally, there is no formal visitor testing that summarizes visitors’ interest in new technologies under the acquisition category of “exhibition enhancement.” Therefore, to respond to this corporate priority and in accordance with the Collection Development Strategy, the curatorial staff identified broad themes reflective of current culture that will allow us to select objects in a systematic way. : More difficult to define, but generally referred to in the context of popular culture, arts and entertainment, movies, and food preparation. The popular entertainment collection of NMAH “encompasses many artifacts of 19th- and 20th-century commercial theater, film, radio, and TV-some 50,000 sound recordings dating back to 1903; posters, publicity stills, and programs from films and performances; puppets; numerous items from World's Fairs from 1851 to 1992; and audiovisual materials on Groucho Marx, to name only a few.” Privately owned Geppi’s Entertainment Museum “is devoted to all aspects of popular culture.” Sony Pictures Entertainment Museum documents film and theater productions, special effects, animation and the studio’s history. Various popular culture magazines use the word ‘entertainment’ as a synonym of food preparation or eating out. [Ref. 1] - Function
