The Rio 2016 Summer Olympics were a watershed moment in the professional acceptance of biometric monitoring used as a training and development tool for athletes. This Hexoskin was used by Canadian Olympic gold medalist, Eica Wiebe, to train for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games. The Hexoskin was used during training sessions to monitor and record Erica’s performance. This information was then used by the athlete and her coach to create the optimal training routine to improve athletic performance. (From Worksheet, see Ref. 1) - Function

There are sensors sewn into the fabric of the Hexoskin which monitor blood pressure, skin temperature, activity level, blood oxygen levels, heart rate and electrical activity (electrocardiogram), and breathing rate and volume. The full body biometric monitor has applications beyond athletic training and is also being used as a medical monitoring device (noninvasive EKG monitoring) and real time monitoring of astronaut vitals during ground based training operations.
