Taken from acquisition worksheet: "This instrument was a major breakthrough, allowing the accurate measurement of the amount of salt in seawater; The changes in the amount of salt in ocean water have a huge impact on climate, ocean movements and currents and marine ecosystems; The use of this instrument led to the creation of an international standard for salt measurement. The Autosal allowed scientists to take salt measurements while in the field, in an automated way. - Area Notes

The control panel at the top has two gauges.
