For centuries, physicians have examined urine for diagnostic purposes. Physicians would examine the urine for colour, smell and taste in order to discern the status of the patient’s body. In the 17th and 18th centuries, this examination would have been within the humoral medical framework. Physicians in New France would have used this technique.
