Canada has known a number of companies that have specialized in marine engine building. Lunenburg Foundry, established in 1891, has a long history of manufacturing a diverse range of marine and industrial equipment renowned for their durability and reliability. With over a century of experience, Lunenburg Foundry and Engineering Limited combines its expertise in fabrication, machining, and metal casting with a strong commitment to meeting customer needs. Among their notable products are Atlantic engines, which have been manufactured by Lunenburg Foundry in Lunenburg. The company played a pioneering role in the development of marine internal combustion engines and continues to produce various items for the marine industry. In fact, in 1921, Lunenburg Foundry became the first in Canada to install a diesel engine in a fishing schooner. Additionally, the company actively engages in ship repair activities such as refits, conversions, and outfitting. Throughout the majority of the 20th century, Lunenburg Foundry also enjoyed a significant reputation as a prominent manufacturer of heating equipment for commercial and residential use. This included the production of well-known wood stoves and furnaces under brands like Peacock, Cinderella, and Lady Scotia.

Atlantic Marine Motors consisted of a series of inboard motors in one, two and three cylinder configuration that were produced by Lunenburg Foundry Company Limited. This artifact is an example of a twin cylinder engine, hence it's model name "Double Atlantic".
