Autres titres: War record - Landing Ships Infantry: in Canada's Navy, the term Landing Ship Infantry describes H.M.C.S. "Prince David", one-time luxury ship of the Canadian National Line. This ship move into enemy held beaches, drop their commando-laden assault craft into the sea and heading for the shore literally begin the invading operation in which they are taking part. During the operation the two "Princes" act as "Mother Ships" to their landing craft and carry aboard the headquarters which direct the operation of these boats in the assault. Approximately 400' long, the RCN's "Prince" ships carry a crew of approximately 420, including 31 officers, and in addition provide living quarters for the troops they must transport to the invasion beach. Included in their formidable armament are twin 2'' guns, Oerlikon and Bofors anti-aircraft guns, and anti-submarine gear... all of which give them considerable striking power in time of need.
