- Sign face reads "PUBLIC/ By-Law No. 24, passed by the Directors of the Grand Trunk Railway/ Company of Canada, July 13th, 1906; approved by the Board of Railway Commis-/ sioners for Canada, October 2nd, 1906; and sanctioned by the Governor-General in/ Council, October 12, 1906./ THE FOLLOWING ARE HEREBY ADOPTED AS THE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THIS COMPANY RESPECTING THE/ SUBJECTS REFERRED TO IN PARAGRAPHS (E) AND (F) OF SECTION 243 OF THE RAILWAY ACT, 1903 (NOW SECTION 307 OF "THE RAILWAY ACT"):/ No person will be allowed to travel upon any of the Company's trains without a ticket or authorized certificate or pass./ Officers and agents for the sale of tickets are provided at each of the Company's stations (except flag stations) and elsewhere. At all stations the ticket/ offices will be open thirty minutes before the departure of each passenger train designated by the public time table to carry Passengers, and must remain/ open for the sale of tickets until the said trains have left./ It shall be the duty of all persons intending to travel upon any of the Company's trains to procure proper tickets before entering the train, is such/ tickets are for sale at the station where the journey begins. Any person failing to do do shall procure a proper ticket from the conductor in charge of/ the train and will be charged thereafter the sum of ten cents over and above the regular fare. It shall be the duty of such conductor to give every person/ when purchasing such a ticket a rebate check, on presentation of which at any ticket office of the Company within 30 days of the date of issue, the sum/ of ten cents will be refunded. No return tickets will be procurable upon any of the Company's trains, except by Passengers boarding trains at flag stations./ No ticket limited by any condition as to the time within which it is to be used, or as to the train or class of car for which it is available, will be/ accepted after the expiration of the time limited by the condition nor for a different class of car nor for a different train, and any person failing upon/ request of the conductor in charge of the train to present a ticket, certificate or pass good for the time, train, and car, or to pay the usual fare in full, shall/ be deemed a person refusing to pay his fare within the meaning of Section 218 of the Railway Act, and may be expelled from and put out of the/ train as therein provided. Nothing herein contained shall affect the right of any person to recover a refund for any such ticket, under the Act respecting/ the sale of Railway Passenger tickets./ Whenever and so often as the conductor in charge of any train requests any passenger to produce and deliver up his or her ticket, such passenger/ shall comply with the request, or in default thereof shall be deemed to be a person refusing to pay his fare within the meaning of Section 281 of the Rail-/ way Act, and may be expelled from and put out of the train as therein provided./ No person shall attempt to get upon or off or stand upon the steps or platform of any car in motion./ No person shall stand on the platform of a passenger car or be on any baggage, mail, or freight car, if there is at the time room inside passenger/ cars sufficient for the accommodation of the passengers./ The Company may refuse to carry any person suffering from any contagious disease, or any one in charge of or who assists in bringing or placing/ any such person upon trains or premises of the Company. Any such person, custodian, or attendant found upon the premises of the Company, or/ who travels or attempts to travel on any of the Company's trains may in addition to any other liability thereby incurred be forthwith removed from the/ trains, stations, or other premises of the Company./ No passenger is entitled to occupy more seat space than is sufficient for one person only nor to place valises or hand baggage, etc., upon the seats/ to the exclusion or inconvenience of other passengers. Baggage, parcels, valises, baskets, etc. which cannot be placed under the seat or in the passenger/ portion of the parcel rack must not be taken into passenger cars, but should be checked or sent by express, as obstruction of the aisles will no be/ permitted./ Persons intoxicated, or otherwise incapable of taking care of themselves, will not be furnished with tickets or allowed to enter the cars, stations/ or other premises of the Company, and if found in any car or stations upon the premises of the Company may be forthwith removed therefrom./ Passengers and all other persons using or upon the trains, stations or other premises of the Company, are required to conduct themselves with/ propriety and to obey the reasonable requests of the station master, conductor, or other officer, agent or employee of the Company, with [damaged/ text missing]/ promote the general comfort and convenience and to maintain order and decorum./ No person shall while in or upon any car, station, platform or other premises of the Company engage in fighting, or conduct himself in a noisy or/ disorderly manner or use foul, obscene, or abusive language, or otherwise interfere with the comfort of other passengers or persons using the Company's/ premises or property, and any person violating this regulation may, in addition to any other liability thereby incurred, be summarily ejected from such/ car, station, platform or other premises of the Company./ No person other than those duly authorized by the Company shall sell or offer for sale any beer, wine, spirits, or intoxicating liquor of any kind or/ any books, papers, cigars, fruit, confectionary, flowers, or other goods or merchandise upon any of the Company's trains or premises./ Smoking in any station or in the cars or general waiting rooms of the Company, other than in those compartments or rooms specially designated/ for that purpose, is prohibited./ Spitting in cars or waiting rooms, or on platforms or other premises of the Company, is prohibited. The Company's officials are required to enforce/ strict observance of this rule./ The waiting rooms, lavatories and other conveniences at stations are provided for the use of passengers only, and all other persons may be excluded/ therefrom./ Beggars, pedlars or itinerant musicians will not be allowed to practice their vocation upon any train or in or upon any station, platform or other/ premises of the Company./ No person shall write obscene or offensive words on the walls or any part of the cars, stations, platforms, or other premises of the Company, or commit/ any nuisance thereon, nor willfully cut or tear any lining or window strap or curtain, or remove or deface any plate or metal, or break or scratch any window/ or other glass therein, or otherwise, except, by unavoidable accident, damage, deface or injure any car, station or other property of the Company./ Cabmen, carters and porters with baggage or with checks for baggage will be admitted to the station platforms and baggage rooms to deliver or receive/ such baggage, but runners, cabmen, carters, porters, or others will not be permitted to enter the stations or trains nor to come upon the platforms or other/ premises of the Company to solicit business except by special permission of the Company and upon observing and complying with such directions and con-/ ditions as may be prescribed by the Company's officials in that behalf./ Private carriages, omnibuses, cabs, baggage wagons, and other vehicles while waiting at the stations, are required to stand in such place or places/ as may be designated by the station authorities to whose directions all persons in charge of such vehicles shall submit./ Every person violating any of the foregoing rules or regulations, in addition to any other liability he may incur, is liable to a fine not exceeding forty/ dollars, and where the violation or non-observance of any such rule or regulation is attended with damage or annoyance to the public, or hindrance to the/ Company in the lawful use of the Railway, the Company may summarily interfere, using reasonable force if necessary, to prevent such violation or to/ enforce observance, without prejudice to any penalty incurred in respect thereof./ The Corporate Seal of the Company was affixed hereto in the presence of-/ (Sigd.)
