- "BRAHAM/ OPTICIAN BRISTOL" printed in black on plaque, above thermometer. Scale divided -0 to 120 by increments of 2, and labelled at intervals of 10 printed on plaque, to left of thermometer; "FREEZ/ING" marked to right of 32 [degrees], "TEMPE/ RATE" marked to right of 56 [degrees], "SUM R/ HEAT" marked to right of 76 [degrees], "BLOOD/ HEAT" marked to right of 98 [degrees], and "FEVER/ HEAT" marked to right of 102 [degrees]. "The/ gift/ of T.V./ Julia Bird/ 1831" handwritten in pencil on plaque top, around mfr's markings. "The gift of Mrs. Moss/ affectionate Mother of Mann [?]/ July 27 th 1856" handwritten in pencil on reverse. "5" marked in black in one corner of plaque back, near bulb. UHN catalogue number "981.33.1a" printed by hand in black ink, also on reverse.
