IT WAS SENT TO UTEMS, THE FIRST ELECTRONIC MUSIC STUDIO IN CANADA, OPENED IN 1959. AN ELECTRONIC MUSIC INSTRUMENT FOR STUDIO WORK, DESIGNED TO ASSIST COMPOSERS IN ALTERING & RECOMBINING PRE-RECORDED SOUNDS. IT PROCESSED SOUND MATERIAL IN THE FORM OF SOUND RECORDS ON TAPE BY DIVIDING THE MATERIAL INTO PARTS, ALTERING THE PARTS, & RECOMBINING THE ALTERED PARTS INTO A SINGLE STEREO OUTPUT. Un instrument de musique électronique pour studio, conçu pour assister les composeurs en modifiant des sons pré enregistrés. La machine traitait des sons en forme de records sur bande en divisant les différentes parties et en les modifiant en sortie stéréo unique. - Technical

THIS VERSION OF THE RECORDER WAS MORE ADVANCED THAN ITS PREDECESSOR, HAVING A MODERN STEEL CABINET WITH COLOUR-CODED SLIDERS; IT WAS COMPLETELY TRANSISTORIZED; IT PROVIDED TWO SEPARATE PLAYBACK SPEEDS ON THE SAME CAPSTAN; IT HAD COLOURED LIGHTS TO INDICATE THE MODE IN WHICH IT WAS WORKING; & PLAYED 10 TAPES INSTEAD OF 6. Cette version de l'enregistreur était plus avancée que son prédécesseur en ayant un cabinet en acier avec des curseurs en couleurs, il était complètement transistorisé. Il offrait deux vitesses à lecture sur le même cabestan et avait des lumières en couleurs pour indiquer lequel des modes étaient en marche et pouvait jouer dix bandes au lieu de six. - Area Notes
