Function

Primarily used for polishing shirt collars & cuffs, etc… After pressing stiffly-starched collars and shirt fronts, one polished them by dampening the surface very slightly and rubbing the hot polishing iron backwards and forwards over the area at great speed. The diamond shape design on the base is commonly referred to as a ‘perforated face’. This type of iron was also available in a ‘smooth bottom’ base that was nickel plated. The latter was more expensive.
