Canada: Part of a large collection of medical artifacts, archival material & trade literature transferred to CSTM in 2002 from the former History of Medicine Museum, Toronto, ON. Used by Drs. Bigelow, J.C. Callaghan & J.A. Hopps at the Banting Institute, University of Toronto in the early 1950s in conjunction with hypothermia experiments carried out there on animals. [Ref. 5] Used to restart stilled hearts during experiments concerning the use of general hypothermia in intracardiac surgery, in Toronto 1948-1950. [Ref. 6]

Markings: Markings on front panel include "STIMULATOR/ MODEL 3C/ SERIAL 56/ GRASS INSTRUMENT CO./ QUINCY, MASS.". All controls, etc. labelled. "USE ONLY 60/ CYCLE POWER" stencilled in white on case top. [NB: text is damaged]. [Vacuum tube placement markings] "5Y3", "6X5", "OD3 (VR150)", "6V6", "6SN7", "6SN7", "6SN7" and "6SL7" stamped in black ink on casing back. UHN catalogue no. 994.1.26" printed by hand in black ink in lower right of casing back.
Missing: Unknown. One metal screw missing on rear of casing.
