Balance arm and pans pivot on mount fixed to underside of case lid. Pans can be raised by means of lever arrangement mounted below imitation ivory scale. Hinged metal arm recessed in right side of case may be raised to support box lid in open position. - Area Notes

- "NO. 100/ SURGEON'S" stamped twice into case front, on either side of case closure. UHN catalogue no. "X969.1 K" printed by hand in white ink on case back. "383" printed by hand in blue ink on red and off-white paper label fixed to underside of case. "S. KONEBUSCH/ NEW YORK" stamped into back panel of case.
