Period
Used by Binney Albert Parsons and his wife Eleanor Fraser, along with their children between 1941-2005.
Canada
The sanitary appliance industry decided to offer coloured products starting in 1926. The colour red appeared around 1930 and Canadian sanitary manufacturers offered six different colours including this one which is known as T’ang red. The manufacturing company named Standard Sanitary & Dominion Radiator, Limited who made these coloured appliances changed its name to American-Standard in 1948. In Canada, the name became American-Standard Products (Canada) Limited with the last factory closing in 2015 in Winnipeg. This artifact embodies a time when the only 61% of Canadians had access to running water. According to Statistics Canada, 56% of Canadians had a flushable toilet and only 45% had a shower or a bath.
Function
Provides physical support to the user of a toilet when sitting upon it.
Technical
A bolt extends through the base of the toilet and then a washer and nut are inserted over it to fasten it. A bolt cap or screw cover functions to hide those parts for aesthetic purposes to give the toilet a more streamlined look.
